Attuned Counseling expands, offers counseling, trauma care | Local

MANSFIELD — Attuned Counseling and Therapy of Athens, Bradford County has opened its second location at 14 S. Main Street, Mansfield, on the second floor of the municipal building.
Tara Clark, LCSW is the owner and head clinician at Attuned Counseling, which offers individual, group and couples counseling as well as off-site presentations for churches, schools and other groups.
“We can help with depression, anxiety, trauma, and with life stressors like divorce, trouble with kids and grief and loss,” Clark said.
“We don’t see a lot of drug and alcohol counseling, although we do that too,” she said. “We try to be eclectic in these niche areas; that’s the population we really enjoy working with.”
Clark is a University of Pittsburgh graduate with a master’s degree in social work. She originally planned to go into drug and alcohol counseling, but changed direction after an internship at the VA.
“I worked with veterans who had PTSD, and that got the ball rolling,” Clark said. “We all have trauma — I think the roots of mental health all come from trauma.”
Clark welcomes what she sees as a growing acceptance of mental health issues and the need to seek help with difficulties.
“I think COVID-19 really brought mental health to the forefront,” she said. “Mental health has always been around, but in this day and age people understand the importance of taking care of mental health just like we take care of our physical health.”
People seeking counseling can schedule an appointment once a week, twice a month or once a month for a “check in,” Clark said. She and clinician Jennifer Nuss, LPC see approximately 20-25 clients per week and drop in hours are available at the Mansfield office on Wednesday mornings.
Clark plans to expand the Mansfield practice and is looking forward to hiring additional local clinicians. She also can provide presentations to schools and other organizations on specific mental health issues and stressors; Attuned Counseling recently gave a presentation to Vineyard Church, Wellsboro and was an attendee at Trunk or Treat in Mansfield last Halloween.
“We want to branch out into consultations with school districts, churches and businesses,” she said. “We can train teachers on mental health issues; there’s a huge need and there’s not enough recognition of this.”
In her off hours Clark lives in Bradford County with her husband and two young sons. “And I’m a knitter,” she said.
Attuned Counseling accepts most private insurance as well as Geisenger insurance. Drop in appointments are not billable to insurance.
